Earth Hour 2010 will take place on March 27 at 8:30 pm, local time. People all over the world will turn off their lights as a call to action on climate change. The event was started three years ago by the World Wildlife Fund and has gone global. Last year nearly a billion people in 4100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents turned out the lights. In 2009, Salt Lake City’s Temple Square went dark. I don’t know if it will happen this year as the Utah Legislature has passed a joint resolution urging EPA to stop all CO2 reduction programs, pending scientific proof that global warming exists.
The global ambadassor for Earth Hour 2010 is Mei Lan, the Atlanta-born panda who now resides in China.
